I’ve seen so many questions such as ‘Why won’t Google index my site?’ and statements such as ‘Google won’t index my site and I’ve tried everything!’ and yet sometimes the very simple checks that should have happened have never been done. I’ll tell you the 3 most common mistakes people are making and why Google is not indexing your site: –
- You are using the ‘nofollow’ on your site or pages.
- You have set the option within WordPress to not allow Google to spider your site.
- You are blocking Google from access the site or page via Robots.txt.
Now to the savvy SEO person you may think that these 3 points are pretty obvious but you would be amazed how many fall for this. I know one site owner that hired an SEO company and was spending thousands of dollars each month and yet the site still wasn’t indexed 4 months later. Everyone was scratching their heads. It was only later on inspection that the option within WordPress was set to not allow indexing of the website.
My tip to everyone who is struggling to get their website indexed in Google is to CHECK THE BASICS FIRST.
